What happens in your head? “Magic, magic…”

It was one of those rare moments. It was one of those moments when language languishes into nothingness and even the most eloquent descend into senseless drivel. It was a moment when all opinion was void, and instead replaced with pure, universal awe. And Zlatan’s bicycle kick from 30 yards out was not a mistake, nor was it a singular ounce of brilliance. This was not a mediocre player scoring the goal of his life; no, this added a fourth to an already sensational hat-trick against England. Zlatan ripped his shirt off and ran to his applauding teammates, but his post-match reaction? “It was a nice goal.”

We were left speechless. Then Swedish reporter Anna Brolin asked, “What happens in your head?”, and Ibrahimovic replied, “Magic, magic.” There was no rebuttal to be had. An arrogance we would normally detest transformed into something beloved, something unquestionably justified. We sit here struggling for words, but what was your reaction? [GIF by Josh. • LA Times reports Lakers say 95 percent chance Phil Jackson returns

    nbaoffseason:

The Lakers are moving quickly toward hiring Phil Jackson as their next coach, with one person in the organization calling it a “95%” chance he will return for a third tour with the team.

The Lakers plan on meeting with Jackson on Saturday morning to make sure he is interested in the job. The unknown 5% in their equation is the chance Jackson doesn’t want to fill the vacancy created by the Friday firing of Mike Brown, either because of health reasons or other unknown issues.

The team realized a slew of things stemming from the 101-77 Lakers’ victory Friday over Golden State, primarily that the players wanted Jackson and fans wanted him too, in case their second-half chants of his name weren’t enough of a tipoff.

It’s not 100% because Jim Buss has locked himself in his office, the same one Phil occupied before retiring, and no one is sure how much food & water he has stockpiled.

  • Don't Call it a Comeback: The Rejuvenation of Brandon Roy

    nbaoffseason:

Sitting in the sunlight on a corrugated metal bench Brandon Roy straightens his legs and looks down. There and there. He pushes the skin right below the kneecaps with his index fingers. No visible evidence remains of the medical procedure that helped bring him back to basketball. The only indication something needed to be done about his knee ailments is that creak which will never go away, a feeling in the knee like when upper and lower teeth grind over each other. Otherwise, the swelling has been deflated and pain lifted…

Great read from Todd Dybas over on SB Nation’s longform section.
